Happy Valentine’s Day & Love Your Pet Day!
TLC was contacted in late April (2020) by one of our Rescue Partners in West Virginia about a pair of Senior Boxers who just weren’t catching any adoption interest. They had been at the shelter for over a month and they were getting worried that they weren’t going to be able to find a new home for this sweet pair. Abbie ( 12 years old) and her “son” Mac (9 years old) were surrendered to the WV shelter after they were no longer able to keep their dogs because the landlord changed the pet policy. They poor pups have never been apart and their world was turned completely upside down.
After securing a foster home, TLC committed to taking this senior pair and doing whatever it took to find them a home. Unfortunately, that could mean separating them. But we weren’t ready to quite go that route yet...Once they arrived and went to their foster home, they seemed to do really well. They both loved people, kids and the resident dogs, neither of them seemed very focused on each other. As we knew the odds were stacked against them (being senior and bonded) we needed to find out if they truly were “bonded”. Each went to a separate foster home and did well, so we felt comfortable (but somewhat sad) to not post them as a bonded pair. The good news is that we didn’t have to worry, because a family saw both of these sweet souls and asked if they could be adopted together. On May 13, 2020, Abbie and Mac were adopted together and are now living their best life with an amazing family. Here is what they have to say about these super seniors:
“They are doing really well and have quickly become part of our family as if they have always been here. We are so happy we adopted them both!
Mac is a big, goofy, lover, always ready for a snuggle. And Abbie is sweet and playful, always ready to greet you with a wiggly butt. They love our large fenced-in backyard where they can run out their zoomies or relax in the sun. We take long walks at our local rail trails and both do well with the other people and dogs we meet. But watch out, squirrels and birds! Mac and Abbie are on high alert!
We are sorry they were ever in need of a furever home, but so glad they came to ours!”
We at TLC are so excited that Abbie and Mac get live out their years together.
