Happy National Nonprofit Day!
Road Trip Destination: Downtown West Chester
Rescue is fluid and often messy. You have to expect the unexpected at all times.
Ringo arrived March 20th of 2021 with an old injury to his front left elbow that made him walk a little funny. At first, it didn’t raise any red flags. It was attributed partially to rickets, something very common in puppies with poor nutrition and small spaces causing their legs to bow out slightly. With proper nutrition and regular exercise, puppies recover quickly from rickets.
In time, however, it became clear that rickets wasn’t the only thing in play here with this little guy. The longer he was with us, the more he was limping. After taking x-rays, it was discovered that the old injury wasn't healing correctly, which was causing abnormal movement in his joint, swelling and pain.
This snuggly little guy was barely 6 months old and we knew he deserved so much more than the life he’d been given so far. We believe that every dog deserves to live a long, healthy life full of love! So, on June 2nd, Ringo had surgery to help correct the injury so his leg could heal correctly. Unfortunately for Ringo, his surgery to correct his broken leg did not take away his pain. This meant that Ringo could need yet another surgery.
Rather than put Ringo through this process all over again, we scheduled him for a 2nd opinion to explore which options would be the most favorable for our adorable buddy. This is where we found out that Ringo may have suffered some neurological damage during the initial injury sustained prior to arriving at TLC. At that point, our plan for Ringo no longer included surgery. Shortly after this discovery, Ringo’s foster family, who had been caring for him for months, decided they couldn’t imagine their family without him.
Until they all have a home... That's not just our tagline, that's our promise - that every dog we bring to TLC gets their Happy Tail in a loving furever home. Even a dog like Ringo, who's journey to his Happy Tail isn't the easiest one.
As a nonprofit, we rely on the support and donations from our community to ensure dogs like Ringo receive the medical care that they deserve. We cannot do what we do without all of you. From the bottom of our hearts, Ringo and everyone at TLC thanks you for your support!
