Most likely to become president

We’re not going to lie to you. This is going to be hard to read.

Sometimes it’s easy to forget what we are up against working in the animal welfare sector. Yes, rescue includes cute puppies and giving dogs new life by breaking them out of the shelter and connecting them to their furever homes--- but it also means coming face to face with an underbelly of society, animal cruelty.

One of our Mississippi fosters pulled up to a campsite and was surprised to see puppies running around the next site untethered. She then noticed the mama dog, now known as Bam bam (short for Alabama), chained to a tree with a padlock around her neck and unable to move. The individuals at the camp site were getting ready to leave with clearly no intention of bringing the mama and puppies with them. The foster called out “you’re not leaving them here?” and was met with a curt “You want her? You can have her.” The woman then proceeded to back up her camper, running over two of the puppies, killing them in the process, threw the key to the padlock out the window, and drove away.

We cannot fathom the horror this must have been to witness both for the foster and especially for Bam bam. Thankfully, the foster sprang into action, freeing Bam bam and her five remaining puppies and bringing them to safety, helping them get care and eventually catch their freedom ride to TLC.

Today, Bam bam & her puppies (The Flintstone pups) are thriving in their furever homes and are truly the embodiment of what pampered pup is meant to be despite their horrific beginnings—friendly, loving, and playful.

“She is the sweetest and most loving dog. She loves everyone (humans, cats, and other dogs). She needs a moment to get to know other dogs but once she meets them, she wants to play.

She loves to "kiss" the cats; they don't like it as much, but they coexist...

She is super smart and learned simple commands, like sit, stay, paw, etc., within 1-2 days.
On the first or second week, she hopped on the couter and ate the cat food but now that she is feeling more at home, she doesn't jump on the counter or counter-surf as much. Probably because she trained us to not leave food or toys out.

She & Laila (10-year-old mix lab) are the best team ever. Luna is the dog sister that Laila needed. She has ZERO aggression!

She doesn't like loud noises or sounds (like the vacuum cleaner). She hides in my office or bedroom.

Words cannot express how much we love her but I tried....

Thank you, TLC for saving her ❤ We can't remember our home without her in it.” - Luna’s Furever Family

We cannot imagine what would have happened if the foster was not at the right place at the right time. Bam bam and her pups, thanks to the power of rescue, have a fresh start to their lives and the promise of one full of love and care.

Here at TLC, we have a passion for saving dogs, but we also have a thirst to educate our community. We know stories like these are difficult to hear, but it’s stories like Bam bam’s that illustrate what rescue is all about.

Wondering how you can help?

1. DONATE- monetary or supplies, so that we can continue to have the resources necessary to find permanent homes for abandoned, stray, and surrendered dogs as well as their basic and veterinary care.

2. FOSTER- Open your home and become a life-saving foster, providing us the opportunity to save “just one more.” Each foster home means another life saved, and even just helping for a weekend could save a life.

3. ADOPT- Be the safe haven and loving home these pups need.

4. ACT - Be like the foster who sprang to action for Bam Bam and her puppies. Take notice and ACT in the face of animal cruelty or neglect.

Not sure where to start? Consider becoming a volunteer where you can learn more about TLC Rescue, our mission to save lives, and all the support for each and every dog that comes through our doors.
