Chelsea
Most Likely to: Score 100% on her DNA test
What do you get when you cross a Great Pyrenees with a marshmallow? Chelsea! This sweet girl did not have an easy start to life before arriving at TLC in June. Chelsea was rescued from Mississippi after being heartlessly shoved under the fence of a local shelter.
Soon after she arrived at TLC, we noticed Chelsea walking funny. After 5+ months of countless vet visits, urine & blood tests, x-rays, and scans, it was finally determined that Chelsea has a spinal malformation. We feel so fortunate and grateful to have veterinarians, who not only have the expertise Chelsea needs, but also the compassion.
“The complexity of Chelsea’s case calls for an extraordinary collaboration between neurosurgeons and surgeons, both from the veterinary and human medical fields, to ensure she can enjoy a future without pain,” said Dr. Suzane Rosen, the Neurologist at VRC. “After consulting with other veterinary specialists, it became apparent that a radical stabilization surgery was essential for her to experience a pain-free and improved quality of life.”
This ambitious endeavor is not only a testament to medical progress, but to exceptional commitment to securing a brighter future for every dog. This dedication is exemplified by the investment of nearly $20,000 in this 9-month-old puppy’s future, underscoring TLC’s unwavering dedication to ensuring that every dog has the opportunity for a better tomorrow.
Despite her challenges, she is the sweetest, friendliest, goofiest, bounciest floof around! Though sometimes initially timid when approached, Chelsea loves dogs (and cats and pigs!) and people, and is great with both adults and kids alike. She loves to frolic in the yard or self-entertain with toys in the living room. She is always game for a walk and is doing well on a leash. While she has her playful side, Chelsea is overall a chill pup who likes to relax.
Read Chelsea’s saga from her very perspective to learn more about how it all started and how she will find that better tomorrow TLC promised her long before she arrived in Pennsylvania.
Chelsea requires an owner who has first hand Great Pyrenees breed experience and understands her quirks. She will also need someone who can continue to provide supportive care for her past injuries and her partial blindness. We are confident that Chelsea’s perfect owner is out there (maybe it’s you!).
May is National Foster Care Month! Chelsea’s story wouldn’t be possible without the dedication and love of her foster parents (and her foster siblings!). If you’re interested in changing a dog’s life, consider becoming a foster!
