It’s National Lost Pet Prevention Month

Featured Dog: Blair

Rescue is not always easy, but it is always worth it.

Dogs come to us with medical issues like heartworm, blindness, and deafness. Dogs come to us scared, shut down, and with attitudes, but we don’t give up on them, even if they feel like they don’t need our help.

Blair is a shining example of how we persevere to help every dog that comes through our doors. Shortly after arriving at her foster home, Blair was spooked while on a walk and escaped her collar. She traveled across town and managed to hook up with a feral cat colony that was being cared for by some good samaritans, so she found a steady food supply and probably some feline friends.

For 535 days, we worked to recapture this girl. She outsmarted several different kinds of traps and consistently evaded rescuers. Teaming up with Cathy Herman-Harsch, founder and Team Lead of ChescoPetSearch, we worked tirelessly, staking out her general location and setting up cameras and traps. Finally, after 18 months, Blair ventured into a humane trap and was recovered.

While Blair spent the next month in a foster home learning to be loved again, one of the people who helped us to recover her on that 535th night realized how much they loved her. Deciding they couldn’t live without her, they soon became not only part of her rescue team, but also her furever family.

Our motto is “Until they all have a home.” To us, it’s more than the cute puppies, the sweet cuddlers, and the docile couch potatoes. It also means the scared, the challenging, the seniors, and yes, the independent Blairs of the world.
