Happy Responsible Dog Owners Month!
Feature Dog: Reba Rose
February: the month dedicated to love. It reminds us of the love that each member of our organization has for dogs in need.
One dog that needed a little extra love and patience and found both in her forever home is Reba Rose. Scared and shut down, she arrived from Mississippi in October of 2021. Her first six months of life had been spent under a trailer with her siblings until the owners could no longer care for her. Reba had to be carried off the transport truck by her eventual foster, Art Campbell, and hid under the chairs in the corner of a room for over an hour. When she got to the Campbell’s home, she was so unsure of her new surroundings and what it was like to be cared for, she would not let them touch her for almost a week.
She eventually became comfortable with Art and Kim but remained terrified of other people and new situations. What they noticed, however, was how much Reba took to their dog, TLC alum Simon, and how great she was with their foster puppies. In November, Reba was adopted but was returned within a day. She was adopted again in December but was returned once more. Often when a dog is returned, they are more anxious and confused. But Reba was excited to see the Campbells, their kids, and their dogs.
After bringing her home for the third time, the Campbells worked with one of TLC’s trainers, Eryn Sibley, and she began to make great strides. Reba began to feel more comfortable and show more of her amazing self each day. Though she went to events and applications were coming in for her, none felt like the right fit. In the meantime, as they waited for the perfect applicant, the Campbell family knew that they could not bear to lose her a third time, so they decided to adopt Reba. On her first birthday, they gave her the best gift of all - the furever home that Reba seemed to know was hers from the start.
“Over the past year, Reba went from being a shy scared pup to becoming a happy yet quirky girl with a funny personality. She loves going for walks, playing with every dog she meets, and cuddling on the couch.” - Reba’s Furever Family
Thank you all for the love you’ve shown to every dog that has passed through TLC. Thank you for the love you’ve shown to our organization as well.
